Fred Kerley Makes History With Olympic Silver Medal, and an Olympic NFT, First of Any Track Star
Tokyo — Fred Kerley first shocked the world when he decided to shift his focus from his trademarked 400-meter track and field event to the 100 meters, where he would win the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games. He now plans to shake up the digital market with the release and sale of his NFTs (non-fungible tokens). Although not the first athlete to reveal their production of NFT’s, Kerley is the first track-athlete to do so. He hopes to share with his fans a moment captured in time of his historic feat. Kerley hopes to use his iconic moment to bring more attention to track-and-field while also introducing his fans to STEM with blockchain technology. A portion of all sales will go to charity.
Fred Kerley’s NFTs were designed by German artists Sandro Ieva and Mike Gyamfi and will be packaged in the Fred Kerley collection consisting of 6 different Tokens.
The First token of the collection is an exclusive 1 of 1 named “Say No More '', The design includes a Cheetah which is the fastest animal on earth. Fred Kerley switched his event on an Olympic year and was doubted by many critics. He took up the challenge and bet on himself and shocked the world, gaining a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics this year.
The next three tokens will be named “Phase 9” named after reaching a goal of running 9 seconds in the 100m and winning a silver medal at the Olympics. There will be three different designs with the most popular being silver that he achieved at this year's Olympics.
The fifth and sixth tokens of the collection are animated trading cards “Phase 19” and “Phase 42” . These tokens will be coupled with official Fred Kerley Trading cards that fans will be able to keep as collectibles. These two represent Fred Kerley’s future in the sport of track and field and his out-of-sports endeavors.
Phase 19 was accomplished after having a personal best of 19.80 at the USA Trials. This made Fred Kerley the third man in history to go sub-10, sub-20, and sub-44
“Phase 42” is the goal for Fred. It represents 42 seconds, which would be the time Fred will want to clock in order to solidify the new 400 meters world record. The “Phases” as Fred likes to refer his times to are stepping stones for the ultimate goal and record. Statistically looking at the times that Fred has already accomplished in his decorated career, 42 seconds is well within reach.
All tokens come along with extra incentives , including but not limited to signed merchandise, Olympic paraphernalia, and apparel from Fred’s personal lifestyle brand. The NFT’s will be released on the Origin platform on September 3rd, 2021
