GG’s Daily News: Buffalo Bills Will Honor Damar Hamlin’s Full Contract
The Buffalo Bills have worked out a deal with the NFL and NFLPA, which will allow the organization to honor Damar Hamiln’s full contract. Hamlin signed a 4 year 3.6 million dollar contract with the Bills for his rookie season. His contract included a stipulation that would reduce his total pay if he was ever placed on injury reserve. After going into cardiac arrest during the 1st quarter of the Bills Bengals game on Monday January 2nd Damar Hamlin was transported to the Hospital. Hamlin has since woken up but remains in critical condition. The Bills announced this week that Hamlin has now been placed on IR. Despite being placed on IR the organization will ensure that Hamlin will be paid his full salary for the year. This decision is a huge deal for the NFL as most first year players do not receive benefits such as this. In addition to this it shows both the Bill’s and NFL’s compassion for Damar Hamlins situation, recognizing this injury could be the end of his football career. Damar Hamlin's situation has since set a precedent in the industry for how serious injuries should be treated going forward.
